What we set
Reading thewellpicked.com sets no advertising or analytics cookies. The site uses a small amount of browser storage for practical things — remembering that a page view has already been counted in your session, for instance — and that data never leaves your browser.
Editors signing in to the publishing tools receive a session cookie. It is httpOnly, restricted to this site, and exists only to keep an editor signed in. Readers never receive it.
| Purpose | Type | Set for |
|---|---|---|
| View-count de-duplication | Session storage, not a cookie | Everyone |
| Editor sign-in | httpOnly session cookie | Staff only |
What retailers set
When you follow an affiliate link, the destination site typically sets a cookie so the retailer can attribute a sale. That happens on the retailer’s domain, under the retailer’s policy, once you have chosen to leave this site. We receive only aggregate reporting from it — never your identity or your basket.
Our affiliate disclosure explains the commercial side of that arrangement.
Turning them off
Every major browser lets you block or clear cookies and site data. Nothing on this site breaks if you do — the only consequence is that a page view may be counted more than once. If you block cookies from retailers, their attribution stops working, which costs us a commission and costs you nothing.
