A recommendation is worthless unless you say who it isn’t for
This is the house position and it drives everything else. Every review and every roundup contains an explicit passage naming the reader who should not buy the product. If a writer cannot produce that passage honestly, the piece does not run.
What we will not claim
- Numbers we cannot verify. No invented test results, no made-up battery figures, no statistics without a source. Where a number would strengthen a claim but cannot be checked, we write around it and say what we do know.
- Prices as facts. Prices move. We describe tiers and value, not figures that will be stale within weeks.
- Awards and accolades. We do not attribute awards to products, and we do not invent our own.
- Testing we did not do. If an assessment rests on specification and reporting rather than hands-on use, the article says so plainly.
How pieces are built
A review starts from the question the reader is actually asking, not from a product. We narrow that question first — what has to be true for this purchase to be right — then work out which products satisfy it and which fail. Roundups are built the same way: the criteria come before the shortlist, never after.
Comparison tables carry only attributes we can confirm. A blank cell is better than a guess.
Independence
No advertiser, merchant or affiliate partner sees an article before publication. None can request a change after it. Commission rates are not visible to writers when they rank products, and a product we advise against is often one we could have earned from. The commercial arrangements are set out in full in our affiliate disclosure.
Corrections
We fix errors in place and mark what changed. Where a correction alters a recommendation, the note goes at the top of the article rather than buried at the bottom. We do not silently rewrite history.
Report anything you believe is wrong to corrections@thewellpicked.com. Corrections are read before anything else in the inbox.
Updates
Product categories move. Articles are revisited when a recommendation stops being true — a successor model arrives, a service changes its terms, a product is discontinued. An article that has been substantially revised carries its updated date.
Use of AI
Editorial judgement, product selection and verdicts are human. Where automated tools assist with drafting or research, a named editor is responsible for every claim that reaches publication, and the standards above apply without exception.
